Happy 50th Anniversary
Over the past half-century, the Association has been proud to promote the versatility of the aerosol package and encourage innovation in the Australian aerosol industry.
In 1994, as part of the Association's 30th birthday celebrations, the 'Australian Aerosol Design Awards' was born. The Awards featured five categories, of which Pfizer's 'Ban Lice' took the Award for 'Best Product Launched in an Aerosol'. Read more about the 1994 winners, as well as a special Lifetime Achievement Award presented to John Thornborrow, founder of Ensign Laboratories. Over 270 people attended the annual Awards night on 22 June 1994 in the Grand Ballroom of Sydney's Sheraton Wentworth Hotel.
Opening the 1994 Awards event, Lindsay Showyin, then Association President, said:
"Our industry has so much to be proud of … and yet we have never publicly paid tribute to those whose
contributions have been significant to the industry and its products as we know them today.
We will tonight begin to correct that sin of omission." Read full quote.
And the Association has certainly corrected that "sin of omission"!
Over succeeding years, the Awards concept was picked up by various other aerosol bodies around the world with the Association's model explicitly adopted for the inaugural European Aerosol Federation Awards in 2007.
Over time, the Award categories were also fine-tuned to reflect issues of the day such as recycling, export development and sustainability.
Now for the 9th time, the 2014 Aerosol Industry Awards will be presented at the Asia-Pacific aerosol event, aerosolsydney2014. The Association will recognize and celebrate excellence and innovation in the regional aerosol industry in the Crystal Ballroom of the heritage-listed Luna Park in Sydney on 3 April 2014.
